Entry Level Designer
Job Purpose/Summary:

The Entry Level Fire Protection Designer is responsible for creating fire protection drawings to be used in the installation of fire protection systems. The Entry Level Fire Protection Designer is directed by sound principles of engineering, fire protection standards and codes. The designers work is guided and reviewed by the Design Manager prior to review by customer and outside authorities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Use of Microsoft Windows and Office products on daily basis.
Use of AutoCAD/AutoCAD MEP, Revit/Revit MEP, Navisworks, and/or AutoSprink to produce design and design related documents.
BIM modeling, working in 3D environments, coordinating with 3D models produced by other trades or software and the ability to clash and resolve.
Use of strong mathematical skills and the ability to learn the logarithmic plotting of water supply data, use of the Pythagorean Theorem and manipulation of algebraic equations to solve for friction losses in piping, sprinkler discharge or other variables.
Read and understand local, government, insurance, fire and building codes and standards, contract documents, plans, specifications and technical business documents.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and maintain individual schedule and completion dates.
Use of technical writing skills for letter and email writing, project requests for information and other written communications.
Perform jobsite visits on working construction sites including usage of ladder and/or lift when necessary while adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
Possess a high level of mechanical aptitude.
Carry out project design duties associated with each project assigned.

Fire Sprinkler Inspector
Job Purpose/Summary:

To conduct inspections of fire sprinkler systems and related equipment. Recognize deficiencies and identify corrective actions necessary to make system compliant with applicable codes, standards, laws and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide proposals for inspections and/or testing based on customer request/site visit.
Track and maintain individual schedule and inspection/testing dates.
Perform inspections and/or testing of automatic sprinkler systems (wet, dry, pre-action, deluge, etc.), fire pumps and perform hydrant flow tests.
Use of ladder and/or lift to complete inspections and testing.
Perform testing/inspection/service of fire extinguishers.
Document deficiencies found during inspection/testing, prepare deficiency proposal and follow up on status of deficiency correction.
Perform minor deficiency repairs in the field (i.e. adding an escutcheon, installing a calc plate, replacing a sign, etc.) for fire sprinkler systems and related equipment.
Attend meetings with the contractor/property manager/owner or other parties for communication, coordination, scheduling, conflict resolution or other purposes.
Compose emails to include technical writing, complete deficiency reports and present information/respond to questions from managers, customers, authorities having jurisdiction and incoming inquiries.
Any other inspection tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum two (2) year experience inspecting, testing and/or repairing of fire sprinkler systems.
Strong working knowledge of all NFPA and local applicable codes required.
Currently possess/retain or obtain NICET Level 1 Certification within one year of hire.
Currently possess/retain or obtain Backflow Certification within one year of hire.
Certified to perform testing/inspection/service of fire extinguishers required.
Proficient in the use of computers and tablets, Microsoft office - both in the office and in the field.
Required to read, write, understand and communicate well in the English language clearly.
Ability to maintain professional demeanor while performing inspections/testing in occupied places of business and when dealing with difficult situations.
Excellent time management, organization and customer service skills required.
Must adhere to all safety requirements.

Project Manager
Job Description:

Manages Kazal Fire Protection projects holistically from contract signing through closeout and final payment. Significant aspects include scheduling, meetings, contractor relations, submittals, cost management, and scope.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Carry out project management duties associated with each project assigned.
Obtain or determine the project schedule and convey all pertinent dates and deadlines to the KFP team including design start, listing, and POJ dates.
Attend meetings (office or jobsite locations) with the contractor/architect/engineer or other parties for communication, coordination, scheduling, conflict resolution, job check, preconstruction, or other purposes.
Project communication and documentation including preparing, issuing and follow-up for ASI’s, RFI’s, change orders, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
Manages submittal register to ensure timely approval of all items.
Responsible for project budget including control over costs on material, labor, equipment (coordinate with superintendent), and subcontractors.
Assist designers in supporting field crews during installation. May include field checks for listing, coordination/conflict resolution, and occasional hand-drawn plans or instructions for field use.
Conduct, when necessary, system training, pump, foam, and/or sprinkler system testing.
Exemplify leadership in teambuilding in a diverse, and at times adversarial, environment.
Takes measures to limit company exposure to risk and actively communicate progressing situations with the construction team to mitigate those risks.
Identify, understand, and effectively communicate the entire project scope to all parties inside and outside the company.
Any and all tasks associated with successful project completion.
Any other project management tasks as assigned.

Five (5) years of previous fire protection management experience required. BS/BA degree in construction management or related field preferred.

Project Coordinator
Job Purpose/Summary:

Immediate opening in our Project Management department. This position provides complete support by assisting the project management team in all aspects of assigned projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare material and shop drawing submittals and maintain/manage submittal registers for applicable projects, including any required close-out documents to ensure timely approval of all items.
Manage eSub to include initial job setup, requesting and entering contacts and overall maintaining of project information.
Schedule, organize all required documents and attend Transfer, Turnover and Handoff meetings.
Update hours in over/under budget schedule and attend scheduling meeting weekly.
Attend meetings with the contractor/architect/engineer or other parties for communication, coordination, scheduling, conflict resolution, job check, preconstruction, or other purposes.
Organize, communicate, maintain and follow-up of each projects RFI’s and ASI’s.
Enter, distribute, follow-up and manage change order requests and maintain rate binder for each project.
Create job budgets and schedule of values for new projects.
Streamline new construction permit process for drop-off and pick-up of plans and permits and maintaining of plan and permit log.
Call-in inspections with the correct AHJ per specific requirements.
Handle all incoming calls for the project management department.
Track and schedule appointments in several calendars.
Answering calls that come into office and transferring to correct contact.
Any other project management tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/GED required.
Two (2) years of previous construction experience required, project management experience preferred or degree in construction management or related field required.
Required to be proficient with general computer functions and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Proficiency with construction scheduling and file management software required; Bluebeam, BIM 360, Box preferred.

Fire Protection Designer
Job Description:

Immediate opening is available in our Design Department for a full-time position. This is a design department position that will design under the guidance of the design manager and also require the applicant to be a reliable and valuable resource to other designers and the company. Kazal Fire Protection, Inc., highly supports growth from within. Out Design Department collectively has over 40 years experience in fire protection design in Southern Arizona, including projects in California, New Mexico, Nevada, and Oklahoma. Our design department follows strict policies and standards that are reflected in our plans and shop drawings. Kazal Fire Protection, Inc., is nationally renowned for the product which our design department develops and we strive to maintain a high level of professionalism in everything we do.

This position requires that the applicant have as a minimum the following qualifications:

Experience on large scale projects such as high rise buildings, hospitals, aircraft hangars and/or warehouses preferred.
BIM modeling, working in 3D environments, coordinating with 3D models produced by other trades or software and the ability to clash and resolve preferred.
Experience with AFFF, High Expansion foam systems, fire pumps, both electric and diesel engine drives, pre-action and dry systems, ESFR, storage and rack systems, paint booths, standpipe systems, seismic bracing and seismic bracing calculations preferred.
Working knowledge of NFPA 13, NFPA 20, NFPA 14, UFC 3-600-01, ETL 02-15, IFC, IBC, and various other NFPA, building, municipal, and military codes preferred.
Use of hydraulic calculation software, such as HASS, HydraCAD, SprinkCAD, or AutoSprink preferred.
Must have clean driving record and valid Driver’s License.
Must pass a drug screen.
 
 
Fitter – Fire Sprinkler
Job Purpose/Summary:
Responsible for and assist in the layout, assembly and installation of fire sprinkler piping and materials to produce a complete, quality system that is accurately finished system per plans, specifications and code requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Determine project requirements including scope, assembly sequences and required methods and materials by reading/understanding blueprints, drawings and written and/or verbal instructions to fit system properly.
Planning of work and leading of apprentices and field helpers.
Knowledge of servicing, installing and repairing all types of fire sprinkler systems to include wet pipe, dry systems, FM200, HEF, fire pumps, etc.
Working knowledge of code requirements (NFPA, City, etc.).
Identify any expected field issues and communicate with in-house departments to mitigate.
Able to identify and select type/size of pipe and related materials and equipment for layout and installation.
Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edge and/or template to ensure conformance with specifications.
Perform cutting, fitting and pipe connecting to fabricate or alter materials onsite if needed.
Utilize a variety of power and hand tools for needed application.
Installation of all materials required for complete system and use of ladder or lift as required.
Install components of machines/equipment for valves, pumps, etc.
Meet schedules and deadlines of projects.
Complete required documentation and reports for each project including, but not limited to, daily time sheets, daily reports, work orders and test certificates.
Adhere to all safety policies/procedures and maintain clean work area at all times.
Any other sprinkler fitter and/or field tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Four (4) years of previous fire sprinkler fitter experience required; certification from registered sprinkler fitter apprenticeship training program preferred.
High School Diploma/GED required.
Out of state and overnight travel to jobsites for an extended period of time required when needed.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards required.
Must be physically fit to perform the work, able to work on ladders, lifts or elevated surfaces, able to bend/kneel throughout shift and able to lift up to 75 lbs.
Must be detail-oriented, punctual, organized and able to multi-task in fast-paced environment.
Able to communicate and perform independently and as a team player to ensure successful projects.
Ability to work well with others in different departments and different trades on jobsites.
Must keep professional demeanor when dealing with difficult situations.

Welder
Job Purpose/Summary:

Use knowledge and welding skills to produce quality, accurately finished materials. This position will also provide shop support by assisting in other shop related duties as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate manual and/or semi-automatic welding equipment using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc and shielded metal arc and resistance welding.
Select gauges or types of sheet metal or non-metallic material, according to product specifications.
Cutting of metals using oxy/acetylene, plasma cutting, cold saw and band saw.
Fuse metal segments, fasten seams or joints together with welds, bolts, rivets and caulks to assemble components into products or to repair items.
Fabricate or alter products using shears, hammer, punch and/or drill.
Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts or rivets.
Maneuver complete units into position for installation and anchor units.
Responsible for welding components in flat, vertical or overhead positions.
Layout, measure, position, align and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly using straight edge, combination square, caliper and/or rulers/tape measure.
Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straight edge and/or template to ensure conformance with specifications.
Determine project requirements including scope, assembly sequences and required methods and materials per blueprints, drawings and written and/or verbal instructions.
Any other welding, threading and/or shop maintenance tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
Current 4G certificate required.
Must be physically fit to perform the work and able bend/kneel throughout shift and able to lift up to 75 lbs.

Two (2) years of previous welding experience required, fire protection welding experience preferred.
Must be detail-oriented, punctual, organized and able to multi-task in fast-paced environment.

Full-time Helper
Job Description:

Immediate opening is available in our Field for a full-time Helper. This is a field position that will work under the guidance of our Field Foreman and Fitters. This positon will require that the applicant be reliable and able to perform many tasks individually and as part of a team to help ensure successful projects in the field.

This position requires that the applicant have as a minimum the following qualifications:
Able to assist in a variety of helper functions that are required for our field operation under the direction of the Foreman and/or Fitter.
High energy level and a strong desire to succeed along with good customer service skills.
Organization and attention to detail required.
Able to read and use a tape measure to perform marking and cutting of sprinkler pipe.
Previous experience of threading sprinkler pipe preferred.
Able to perform work on a ladder and/or lift.
Able to perform loading and unloading of raw materials.
Able to maintain tools, including general housekeeping of worksite area.
Able to perform miscellaneous field duties as required.
Must adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
Must maintain a clean and safe work area.
Must be physically fit to perform the work.
Must be able to lift/carry 90 lbs.
Possess ability to work well with others.
Previous construction experience preferred.
